A clearer next step

What is happening with your pool?

Match the symptom to the right service. The Pool Police helps Austin-area homeowners with weekly care, water loss, equipment problems, green pools, and inspections. Start here to organize what you are seeing before you call.

Green or cloudy water

Start with water test results and the recent service history. A change in color can involve chemistry, circulation, or filtration; it is not enough to choose a treatment from a photograph alone.

Before you call

Note when the color changed, recent rain or heavy use, pump interruptions, and the names of products already added. Keep people out if visibility is poor; the CDC advises avoiding unusually cloudy water.

Pool losing water

Unexplained water loss calls for investigation before choosing a repair. Weather, splashing, an automatic fill system, and equipment operation affect what you observe. A leak search helps separate those observations from a confirmed leak location.

Before you call

Record waterline changes from the same reference point, water added, weather, and visible wet areas. Mention whether the pool and spa behave differently and whether the problem began after equipment work.

Pump not priming or running

A pump that runs without moving water needs a different diagnosis from one that will not start. Manufacturer troubleshooting lists water supply and suction-side air among possible priming problems. Record the symptom and the model before deciding that a replacement is necessary.

Before you call

Photograph the model label and controller message. Note when the problem started and any recent service. Do not repeatedly restart a pump that cannot establish flow; follow the equipment manual and arrange service.

Filter pressure or flow changes

Compare the current gauge reading with the recorded clean-filter reading and identify the filter type. Cartridge, sand, and DE filters have different service procedures. A pressure reading without that context does not establish which part needs attention.

Before you call

Have the filter make and model, last service date, clean baseline, and current reading ready. Do not open a pressurized filter. Use the model-specific manual or have the system serviced.

Keeping up with pool maintenance

Choose a recurring plan by the work included at each visit, how it is documented, and what is quoted separately. A maintenance quote should account for the pool you own and its current condition.

Before you call

Tell us your neighborhood, approximate pool size, attached spa or water features, equipment type, tree cover, and how the pool is used. If it is already green or losing water, mention that first.

Buying a home with a pool

A dedicated pool inspection documents condition and findings so you can ask better questions before closing. Confirm the scope, access requirements, and report timing against your transaction deadline.

Before you call

Share the property location, deadline, equipment details, known concerns, and available service records. Ask how non-operating equipment will be documented and whether any suspected leak needs a separate search.

Tell us what you are seeing.

Have your neighborhood, equipment model, and recent service history ready. We can discuss which service fits your situation.
